In a heartfelt response to Pope Francis' Laudato Si' and the Laudate Deum on the pressing issue of the climate emergency, the Carmelite Community together with Mt. Carmel College organized a "Walk for a Cause" on the theme Care of Creation. The event was held early morning on April 9, 2025, and gathered around 300 participants, including students, parish workers, and members of the GKK (Gagmay'ng Kristohanong Katilingban).
The walk commenced at 4:45 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Parish grounds, passing along the National Highway through the communities of Karaos and FreshVil, and concluded at the Mt. Carmel College gym. Along the route, participants held placards bearing strong messages calling for the protection and preservation of Mother Earth.
The walk was joined by students of Mt. Carmel College who are currently enrolled in Theology 4 – Christian Faith and Social Responsibility, embodying their commitment to integrate faith and action in addressing social and environmental concerns. By 6:47 a.m., participants were treated to a simple snack at the college gym.
The event concluded with a message of gratitude from Fr. Gabriel D. Dolotina, O.Carm., who thanked everyone involved in making the activity a meaningful and successful expression of collective ecological responsibility. This event reflects the growing commitment of faith-based communities in Caraga and across the Philippines to address the ongoing climate crisis through advocacy, education, and public witness.
